marilyn meburg talked about how God created us to be connected. how true is this! i thrive by being connected to my husband, son, family, friends, and co-workers. however, our connections aren't always as strong as it could be because we are afraid of abandonment. how true is this! there are many relationships in which i place a wall between in efforts of not letting them know the true me. i only want them to get so close. there are other relationships where i desire to grow deeper, but the other person is clinging to their own wall. this reminded me of a statement from a beth moore bible study-we have lots of relationships that are miles wide (they are only surface level), but only a few that are miles deep (they are strong, open, honest, really know you relationships). i hope to invest time in others so that i may be connected with them, not only on the surface, but to have a deep, meaningful relationship with.
and lastly, nichole johnson did several skits. she writes her own stuff and does the acting. she's very talented and can really get her point across. in the last skit she did, she talked about wild fires. we saw video clips from recent fires in california and how quickly those fires could ruin homes, towns, and cities. as the skit went on, she showed how words are like wildfires, killing those around us who we so carelessly criticise, belittle, and throw insults. james 3:5b-6a says, "But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body." the tongue is one of the most powerful things we have as humans. we have the power to hurt someone in a split second and we have the power to uplift our brother and sisters. it's a choice, and a choice i must choose daily. some days are easier than others...
i'm so thankful i was able to get away for the weekend and enjoy this wonderful conference. if you've never gone...you should! thank you john for watching greyson and being a wonderful dad!

i read that passage in james this morning. it just hits me so hard. i need to control my tongue better. especially with a.j. i want to always be loving to him and respect him. i'm his wife and he deserves my love and respect! i mean...it's not like i sit around bashing him, but i just feel like i don't encourage him enough or trust him enough, you know? it's something i'm praying about now.
okay...as for the picture...i went to customize and then it says add page element on a side box, top box and bottom box. when you click on that it has a bunch of stuff you can add (like the blogs you read) and you click add picture. for the top part you pick a picture and then it asks if you want it instead of a header or behind your header. and the same for the sides and bottom! does that make sense??
Wow, Jessica! You learned so much. Did you take notes? I never could've remembered all that! :) God is amazing and it's always wonderful to have an eye opening experience to help us grow closer to him.
seriosly, eye opening posts!! thank you so very much for sharing and giving us just a glimpse of how fantastic your weekend was! i hear you on the wall thing. it isn't easy to really let people all the way in :) shoot, it is hard to let God all the way in. but thankfully, He keeps trying and so should we :) Love you!
