according to my kids all we've done this summer is work. it's partly true and i can see how they think this. i did a lot of deep cleaning in our house. i went through every room and wiped down walls, dusted trim, and went through all our belongings and purged SOOOO much! it felt wonderful. the kids did their fair share this summer too. they had dishes duty each day and had to wipe down the table after we ate. they also had to pick weeds, keeps their rooms clean, and do random things like clean out the suburban. they didn't always have a good attitude but we did accomplish a lot this summer.
we also had a lot of fun this summer. the kids begged to go to the fair. we managed to skip it last year but they had so many friends showing animals that they wanted to go. we saw jonah's goat, we got to watch tyler (and many others we knew) show their pigs. we happened to go on dollar ride day so they also got to ride a lot of rides. the twins didn't ride anything except the farris wheel. they thought the other rides were "baby" rides and refused to ride them.
john also let the twins ride the four wheeler by themselves for the first time. i wasn't overly thrilled but he dialed it down (you can turn something and it makes it go slower). the boys thought they were big stuff. for whatever reason for the past few weeks kenna and the twins have been playing very well together they spend hours playing nerf guns, on the playground, running through the sprinkler, and just doing silly things. it's been so nice.
we went to bobby and stephanie's lake house, that they just moved into in december, with aj and vikki. it was gigantic and gorgeous. we had so much fun jet skiing, tubing, and playing in the water.
we've had a good balance of work and play! :)
