john managed to pull off his fifth straight winners circle by opening and keeping new business. he generated 2 million dollars in new business this past year. he works hard and loves what he does. and i love that he wins these trips! :) this year we extended the trip and flew out on monday. we arrived in cali at 11 but couldn't get into our flat until 3 so we explored a bit and decided to go see a movie, incredibles 2 or 3 (i don't even know!-there weren't many choices) to pass the time. i slept through the entire movie. i was so tired from not getting much sleep the night before. john didn't like it so we ended up leaving a little early and headed to our flat. we got it from vbro and it was right downtown in the gaslamp district. it was spacious but the owner had called to let us know that the people who had rented it before us must have smoked pot because it smelled still. you could smell it the instant you opened the door. it smelled even more strongly in the bathroom where we suspect they did most of their smoking. we opened the windows and left the bathroom fan on. we could still smell it in the bathroom three days later when we left.
that evening we strolled down to seaport village and ate dinner on the bay. the views were beautiful and the area was neat. there were shops and lots of yachts and boats to look at. we walked 8 miles that day!
on tuesday we went to sea world. it was a beautiful day and we had fun learning about all the animals. san diego was much cooler than i expected it to be. it hovered around 70 most of the time we were there but was much cooler in the morning and evenings. i only took two long sleeved shirts and i wore them almost every day.
that night we went to a padres game. we were five rows up on the third base side. the tickets were cheap (compared to Wrigley) and the stadium was awesome. it was very clean and new. we enjoyed our evening at the ball park.
on wednesday morning we got up and went back to seaport village. we toured the USS Midway. i usually could care less about history (bad i know) but i really enjoyed this tour. it was at your own pace and we each had our own receiver that we scanned at various locations. there was different guys who actually served and lived on the ship tell their personal stories. it was very interesting. we spent around 3 hours there and could have spent longer.
the ship had it's own jail, laundry, doctor, dentist, post office, etc. the men had very little living space. the bunks were tiny and their locker space where they got to keep personal items was unbelievably small.
wednesday afternoon we went to old town. this area was the first settled part of san diego. there was a mexican market, lots of shops, beautiful gardens, entertainment, and restaurants. we had delicious mexican food.
we were on our own for this part of the trip. we used ticketsatwork.com (a site my work has a subscription to) to get all of our tickets and ended up saving quite a bit of money. you have to print the tickets so we found a local office depot and printed our stuff there. if you are traveling, be sure to check the out the deals! we walked sooo much on this trip! most days we got in 6-8 miles). we would love to take the kids back to san diego. it has so much to offer! the only thing we didn't like was that there was a lot of homeless people on the streets and there were many places that smelled like urine. the homeless weren't afraid to ask you for money and that was kind of annoying. most were nice, but we had a few make comments like, "you look like you have money" when we said we didn't have any cash. i also thought it was cold...but john loved the temps.
