labor of love: repainting cabinets

school is in full swing (it's going great by the way...i absolutely love my class!) and labor day was last week.  john spent the weekend in the upper peninsula fishing with some friends and the kids, jenn and i went to indy with my parents.  we spent the weekend laboring at my brother's house.  trent bought his first house and moved in earlier this summer.  he decided it was time for some updates...mainly his outdated, light oak cabinets and counter top.  one day while browsing pinterest i came across this tutorial on how to repaint cabinets.  well, i was ecstatic when i realized there was no primering or sanding involved in this process.  i sent the link to trent and he wanted it done as soon as possible.  we purchased the kit at menards and decided on espresso.  when we first starting painting, i was a tad bit nervous because it seemed so light and didn't seem to be covering very well.  however, as soon as we started the second coat it was true love.  i will say it took a long time but it was so worth it.  i think they look great and it wasn't too hard.  thankfully trent decided against the glaze, so we were able to skip the third step which shortened the process by 10 hours (drying time included).  i'll apologize now for the poor pictures...most of them were taken with my brother's camera phone that he took.  hey, a girl can't remember everything when packing a four and one year old for a weekend away without the hubby!

after: the first picture dipicts the most accurate color...the last pictures of the cabinets look black...they're not!

 if you are thinking about doing some updating yourself, i would highly recommend using the rustoleum kits.  i loved it so much, i'm thinking about redoing my bedroom set!
