blizzards, bows, and beautiful masterpieces

we have gotten so much snow and i LOVE it!!! :) it was great to have an unexpected day off and the two hour delays that have followed. thank you blizzard 2011 and freezing cold temps! i even learned that it doesn't have to be snowing to be considered a blizzard. what makes a blizzard is the wind and the blowing of snow... thank you for the knowledge, mr. meteorologist.

since i knew school was being cancelled i stayed up late finishing this project. it's for the baby's room and i love how it turned out. i got the idea from here. i used scraps of scrapbook paper and embellishments that i already had for most of it. i used my cricut to cut out some of the shapes too. i did have to buy a few things including the canvas ($6.99), paint ($1.77 x's two for red and white paint to mix), and the background paper for all the squares (5 sheets for $1.00). after i painted it, laid out all the background squares, and attached the letters and embellishments, i mod podged it. simple...fun...easy! these are my kind of projects! :) i can't wait to put it in her room.

the next day i attempted to make bows, but the first one i tried did not turn out. i'm not sure what i was doing wrong, but i gave up (i will attempt it again later) and went to an easier one that i remembered Lindsay blogged about a while back. so i hunted it down on her blog and was very successful with it. i followed her tutorial except that i added one step. she said it was difficult to hold the bow together while sewing back and forth so i decided to use some scrapbook adhesive to hold it. this worked wonderfully (it did make it more difficult to push the needle through, but it was worth it because i kept having ribbon fall out of my bow before i did this). the best part is, i bought the ribbon half off, will be able to make other types of bows with it, and it can be removed from the headband easily to wear alone when baby davis gets older. :) i'm already looking forward to making korker bows next!

my last project has been done since last friday. i got the idea from here. this could be a really thrifty decoration for your walls. however, i didn't shop around to find cheap frames and a black shelf so it really added up quite quickly. however, i LOVE it and don't even care that i could have done it cheaper! :) the fun thing is that i printed the black and white collage at home and can change this as often as i want. the third collage will obviously be for little girl davis when she arrives. it isn't hanging on my wall yet, but you can get an idea of what it will look like. i am going to add a small vase with flowers or something on the shelf too to give it a more homey feel.

i have some more projects up my sleeve so check back to see what else i'm making! :) hopefully it doesn't take another blizzard for me to get them finished.

wow! your projects all turned out great! will you show me how you made your bows? we should get together and make some together! i would love to do that. i've been wanting to make aliyah some, but i haven't yet! it would probably be way cheaper than buying them! (although, target has really cheap ones and so does walmart...just fyi!) yours is soooooo cute, though!!! i want to make one!

That is incredible! I love everything! You are so creative. Are bows hard to make or expensive? I would love to make bows for grace. Your little girls room is going to look incredible! Love you!

Oh my! I am way impressed. I LOVE the ABC wall decoration. Adorable! Better get all your projects done in a hurry, lady, because when she comes, you won't have the energy! :)
