through the years

five years ago (yesterday) i married my best friend. we met at church when i was in middle school and john was in high school. there was something about him that caught my attention and i quickly fell for him. unfortunately, he didn't even know i existed! however, over the next few years we began to spend some time together with a core group of friends that also attened the same youth group that we did. my feelings for him grew, but he never showed any interest in dating, just being friends. he went away to college and we rarely saw each other. everytime he would come home i would make brownies to send back with him with a small note of encouragement just to let him know that he was being thought of.

the summer before my senior year in high school, john was working at YCL as a camp counselor. he would come home on the weekends and we continued to hang out with our group of friends. one day my mom called me at work and told me that i got something in the mail and she thought it was from john. i raced home before going to my second summer job because the excitement was killing me. he had never done something like this before. i remember getting the letter and feeling overjoyed because he had said that my thoughtfulness over the years was appreciated and that he wanted to get to know me more! he also asked me if i wanted to go out on friday when he came home from camp. at this point, my heart was racing and i was one excited girl! i read the letter over and over just to make sure i wasn't reading anything into it and finally decided that i wasn't. i needed to let him know that i would love to go out on friday night but the only way i could get a hold of him was to send a letter back to camp and hope he got it in time. we went on that first date and quickly started to fall in love. we married five years later and the rest as they say, is history! :)

through the years we've grown to love each other more and more everyday. he is my biggest blessing! thank you God for brining us together and helping us rely on you during the good and the bad.
