the proof is in the pin: pumpkins

last night we spent some time getting our house ready for fall.  greyson, my mom, and i went to a local produce stand to pick out pumpkins, gourds, and mums.  greyson loved seeing all of the pumpkins and playing with all the cats that were lingering around.  when we got home, all greyson could talk about was carving his pumpkin.  so i cut the top off and let greyson and kenna take out all the inner gunk.  kenna kept trying to eat the pumpkin seeds and she went from happy to extremely upset in two seconds flat when i told her she couldn't eat them.

i am not a carving guru by any means and usually leave this part up to the hubs, but greyson and i were having mommy/son time and he wanted me to carve it.  of course i headed to pinterest to see if i could find some sort of template and found this.  i let him choose what he wanted.  i tried to get him to change his mind to a cute owl instead of the haunted house, but once his mind was made, there was no changing it! you can see the end result below (sorry the picture is blurry.  it's the only one where the candle actually illuminated it). not bad for an inexperienced pumpkin carver! ;) templates are the way to go!

after the kids went to bed i decided to finish the pumpkins that we bought and i have seen all sorts of fun painted/carved, monogrammed pumpkins out there in pinterest-land.  i got my inspiration from these pumpkins (although mine doesn't look anything like it!).  i knew i wanted a "d" on one of the pumpkins so i decided to use my silhouette to cut it out from contact paper (i use contact paper instead of vinyl all the time for projects like this...it's sooo cheap and it works great!). i also put some fun designs on each side to dress it up a bit, but the spray paint ran and made it look terrible.  luckily for me, the spray paint came right off the pumpkins with a little scraping! i love how it turned out!

i've managed to complete two projects from my pinterest boards and i'm working on another one that i will share next month.  i love how happy crafting makes me and i need to make sure i do it more often!
