youth convention

this past weekend we took the youth to indianapolis for SYC. i thought it would be hard to leave greyson for the weekend but he did very well at my parents and we were so busy i didn't even really get to think about him too much. he didn't even want to come home with us when we went to get him. i'm glad he had a great time, but seriously, he could have missed us a little! :)

john and i thought the speaker was great! we both got so much out of it. i'm sad to say, i missed most of one of his sermons because one of our students got a bloody nose. it took forever for it to stop and really, i just wanted to say "go to the nurse" like i would have if we were in school! haha...but what i did hear of the three different times he spoke was challenging.

he talked about having idols and how we are not to have any idols before God. i have heard this hundreds of times before, but for whatever reason the way he explained this hit me like a ton of bricks. i realized a few of my idols are sleep and entertainment. basically, by admitting this, i'm saying that i rather sleep and entertain myself through tv, computer, going out with friends, etc. than i would spend time reading my Bible and praying. in the past, i would squeeze my Bible time in and often it got left out of my daily routine. i would find excuses not to get into the word. i realized how wrong this is and the speaker challenged us to read the entire bible in a year. i felt convicted and challenged. i know the only way i can learn to be more like Christ is to spend time daily with Him...no matter what. Sunday night when i came home i got on his website and found a plan that fit for me and printed it out. it's only been four days, but so far i have gotten up and spent a significant (significant compared to what i used to do) amount of time praying and reading my Bible. i might not get something out of it every morning, but he assured us that was normal. i just need to be committed and do as God has commanded. i am thankful for a weekend away where i could worship with 1200+ students and counselors. great weekend indeed!
