{labor day and camping fun}

john's aunt and uncle invited us to their lake house over labor day weekend to enjoy the sun, water, and boat.  the kids had a blast with their cousins and we all had fun cruising around the lake.  it had us itching for a lake house again, but the phrase we tell the kids often, "be content with what you have" keeps coming to mind.  it's easier said than done sometimes!

we went camping at potato creek with the hahns, fryes, and gills, and georges.  while we were setting up, john's mom and bill pulled in.  they were in the site right behind us.  what are the chances!?! it was actually kind of nice because the kids spent some time over at their campsite, too.  the weather was perfect during the day, but very chilly at night.  our cord didn't reach to the outlet, so we had to use an extension cord.  it wasn't a heavy duty one so we couldn't use our heat.  we froze at night! we came home and bought a heavy duty extension cord so it never happens again. Easton loved having "the big guy" to play with, but didn't enjoy the extra girls. ha!

john decided he had to take a tv so he could watch the nd game.  we all sat around the fire and watched the game.  the kids took lots of bike rides and went to the park.  there was another family there from our school and the kids played together a lot too.

i decided to make chili for supper. i prepped everything at home so we just had to dump the ingredients into the crockpot.  when i opened the lid to stir it, there were two flies sitting on top.  i was grossed out but decided to toss them.  however, as i kept stirring, i ended up finding over 20 flies in our chili!!! YUCK!! they were going in this vent hole on the lid and then dying from the heat.  i was so grossed out and couldn't eat it.  john, easton, and emmy still did but i just couldn't stomach it. i was so disappointed and decided if i try it again, i'll have to be sure to cover the hole!

i think our lake days are over for the summer, but we are planning on going camping one more time!

So fun! Camping with friends is always a good time with great (or gross :)) memories being made!
