{buck of a lifetime}

bow hunting season is in full swing. deer around nappanee usually aren't very great in size because most everyone shoots anything they see. on john's second time out, he saw two bucks. they were so close to him and he could have easily shot one but his scope had fogged over and he didn't realize what the malfunction was until it was too late. he was so frustrated with himself for days.

a week later, on his third time out, he hadn't seen anything and was just about to get out of his stand when a huge buck appeared near the ditch through the tree line. he said he didn't feel nervous at all, and within 20 seconds he took the shot. he knew by the way the buck jumped he had hit it. he called my dad to see if he should go after it then or if he should wait. it was completely dark by now so my dad said they could go in the morning. he called steve and he suggested they go because it was going to rain and if they couldn't find the blood trail they may never find it. so the three of them headed out. we all were praying they would find it. they couldn't find the blood trail and frustration was setting in.  finally, my dad began yelling that he found it. john was so excited. thanks you, Jesus!

john likes to exaggerate so when he told me it was the biggest deer he'd ever seen, i was a little skeptical.  ;) i had to see it for myself and john wanted pictures of his trophy deer. he wasn't exaggerating. it was a 10 pointer! he took it to be processed and got a ton of meat, jerky, and sticks. our freezer is well stocked.

john is getting the head mounted and now we are having a friendly debate about where he gets to put it. of course he thinks the living room and i think the barn. we might come to an agreement and i just might be able to live with it in the basement. :-)

That's so great for John! (And you because he doesn't have to go out hunting every weekend!) :)
